Landmark trial
Prostate-specific membrane antigen PET-CT in patients with high-risk prostate cancer before curative-intent surgery or radiotherapy (proPSMA): a prospective, randomised, multicentre study
Hofman MS, Lawrentschuk N, Francis RJ, et al.
DoseLab summary
The proPSMA trial randomized men with high-risk prostate cancer to staging with conventional imaging (CT and bone scan) or PSMA PET/CT before curative surgery or radiotherapy. PSMA PET/CT was more accurate for finding pelvic nodal or distant metastases (92% vs 65%), and the authors concluded it is a suitable replacement for conventional imaging. Citation checked against Europe PMC.
Why this is useful
The randomized evidence that PSMA PET/CT stages high-risk prostate cancer more accurately than CT and bone scan.
